Pets bring so much joy to our lives. I recently heard a podcast talking about pets and how they are likely a gift from God and can even be little angels in our lives to protect and love us. I have to believe that’s true because they are truly a gift and can fill our lives with so much joy.

God talks about animals a lot in His Word. He loves each and every creation on this earth including the animals all over this earth.

It is such a blessing to have a furry companion, even if you just have some loving with a friend’s pet it is so worth it.

Animals can help us relieve stress, and at the same time that we’re petting them they are getting a dopamine rush too which is so cute. They give us unconditional love, teach us responsibility, and teach us how to discipline because let’s be honest they need LOTS of training sometimes.

We just love our pets! I take them for granted daily, and I need to be better about not doing that, but it is such a blessing to share our home with our two little love bugs. Lucas always wants me to get another pet, but I have to constantly tell him no haha! I honestly don’t think our current pets would be too thrilled with a new animal in the house. Plus, I remind him that I would much rather focus on having a little human baby first 😉

But let’s be real, our pets are the OG babies. My little Sophie lives for being the baby, no matter how much I try to get her to act like a dog haha! Ellie, the cat, only wants to be the little baby when she wants to and not when I want her to. However, those little moments when she wants to share her space with me and wants me to rub her as all of her 17 pounds lay on my chest, those moments make me smile and warm my heart.

I thought it might be nice if you got to know my little furry joys. I know I always love seeing pictures of pets so hopefully this will bring you some joy!

Sophie is currently 6 years old and she is our little 7 pound Pomeranian. She doesn’t look like a typical Pomeranian because her fur isn’t as poofy (for lack of a better word) than other Pommys. She has a little more under-coating in her back legs and bottom, but the rest of her hair is classified as “flat”. She also has a little bit of a longer snout and has a bit of a foxy face. Even still, she is just a Pomeranian. I never thought I would actually have a Pommy, but she is the best dog! Definitely has a bark on her, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Ellie is a cat. A typical cat. haha.

She is 17 pounds, a gray tabby, and although she likes to be in the same room as us most of the time, she really just likes to do her thing and be left alone. AND she likes to be fed, ALL the time. Don’t worry, we don’t overfeed her -she eats the recommended amount, but she’s just a big kitty. Speaking of feeding the cat – I just recently switched her bowl to a tilted bowl and now she actually eats all her food! I highly recommend. Here’s the one we got in case you’re interested.

Ellie was our first fur baby and she’s 7 now! I can’t believe it’s been that long.

Speaking of when we first got Ellie, I HAVE to tell you this hilarious story. Well it’s not that hilarious, but it was definitely interesting. When we first picked Ellie up, she was very little and we had no experience with cats. Our friend came along and she was PRETTY sure that Ellie was a boy. We were excited because we heard boy cats were more cuddly so we took her home. She was also the only kitten there, it was a family who couldn’t keep her.

So we took our little kitten home and we named him Toby. Loved that name, so cute! Well, we fell in love with our little Toby and he/she was so cuddly and loving. Welp, Toby went to his first vet appointment and turns out, spoiler… the kitten was a GIRL! lol! That was a weird feeling, fell in love with our little Toby being a boy and not it was a girl. We decided to name her Ellie and we love her just the same! However, I gotta say.. her personality was TOTALLY different when we learned she was a girl. So weird. It was probably in my head, but I thought it was funny.

So now throughout this last year, our pets have been such good company. I am so excited about the possibility of having our own children after we go through our upcoming IVF cycle, but I can’t help but think about what our pets will do when that day comes. Will my little baby Sophie just become my dog? Will she look after my little baby? How is her barking going to affect the baby, will she learn to not bark as much or will the baby get used to it? How is Ellie going to act with a new smell in the house? So many questions, so many dreams, so many thoughts about the future and trust in the Lord for His blessings that are ever abundant!
